I am using Acymailing Enterprise 6.12.1.
I have blocked certain domain extensions in Joomla user registration, but certain undesired domains are still signing up for the newsletter, even though I have blocked them in Joomla user registration.
Via this forum, I was given a link to the documentation to set up automations. However, what I actually need is more detail on how to set up a specific automation that blocks these repeated spams.
I receive notices every time newsletter sign-ups "modify" their records. Yes, I could turn those off, but then I would not have discovered how much spamming is going on.
A spammer is signing up for the newsletter over and over, using the same email address multiple times and changing the name, 6-8 times per each email address. I get about 100 or so of these, daily. 100% of these attempts are not legitimate sign-ups for the newsletter. The names are random letters and the emails are usually not valid. I tried setting up an automation something like this: When a user enters a domain like this (*.xyz) then immediately unsubscribe them from the newsletter. I still see the spam sign-up emails from fake addresses ending with the specified domain suffix. This doesn't solve the problem.
If a user is signing up to receive a newsletter, there is no need for them to re-enter the same email more than once. Is there a way to block that behavior??
The larger problem is how to block certain types of spam. Many of these sign-ups are from gmail.com, yahoo.com, and other free email services where you would not want to block them, because it could be a real user.
To sum up: I have two issues with fake newsletter sign-ups.
- I cannot block certain undesired domains.
- Spammers reuse the same gmail or yahoo address repeatedly to send fake sign-ups by changing the name repeatedly.
Please provide specific instructions. I have attempted to do this on my own, but what I have set up does not have any effect - I continue to get dozens of these fake sign-ups daily.
Your help is appreciated!
