Acymail Subscription module| Settings issue

In the administration of the Subscription module the

Automatically subscribe to
Displayed lists
Lists checked by default
-

all present as an empty grayed out field. I am unable to set the parameters for any. To make matters worse we have just noticed when someone does subscribe the subscriptions goto null.

I realise I'm becoming a PITA here, but appreciate my frustration with ACYmailing and all the silly little issues we seem to be having with it are testing...

An UPDATE:
There appear to be two acymailing subscription modules:

AcyMailing Module Subscribe / Unsubscribe Module for AcyMailing
AcyMailing subscription form Subscribe to / Unsubscribe from AcyMailing lists

The first has active fields to select lists to display and select. However, these settings seem to have no effect on the front end, i.e. they are not displayed. Only the user name and email field appear. There is not indication of which list the user is subscribing to.

The 2nd seems to have belonged to acymailing v7, which I recently removed, among other reasons, because it caused significant site performance issues. FYI & and as a side issue, once I uninstalled this module there was further clear improvement with the site's performance, especially on the backend.

Nevertheless, the problem remains in that we cannot display the available lists in modules to users.
