J3.10.9 +AcyMailing 5.11.1 (Enterprise) to J4.3 + AcyMailing Essential

Hello,
I'm currently working on migrating my existing site, based on J3.10.9 +AcyMailing 5.11.1 (Enterprise), to J4.3 and AcyMailing Essentials.

I'd like to know what procedure needs to be followed for this migration and what version AcyMailing Essentials is (v5, 7 or 8?). Keep in mind that I'm building the new J4.3 site from scratch.

Furthermore, the new site is being built from scratch, so I can start clean. This means Category IDs, used to trigger automated newsletters, have changed. Do I simply update the relevant 'autocontent IDs' or is there something else that needs to be done?

We want to emphasize the importance of switching to Acymailing version 8 as it is the future of Acymailing. It's worth noting that Smart newsletters in version 5 are now referred to as Automated newsletters in version 8, and the difference is significant. Unfortunately, migrating from Smart newsletters to Automated newsletters is not possible, and they will have to be recreated manually.

The second document provided seems to be the answer to my question as it covers the migration to a new J4 site - which is my case.

I have a few more questions here:

1) My current license has expired. It was v5 Enterprise, however when I renew it, I'd like to switch to version 8 as you recommended, but the Essentials license as this should cover me just fine. When I purchase a new Essentials license, is there a special process I need to follow to upgrade my expired version 5 (enterprise) to its latest version, considering I'm now purchasing an Essentials license?

2) Regarding the new Automated newsletters supported in version 8, does this mean that when I upgrade from version 5, I lose all statistics, newsletter subscribers and newsletter template in version 5? I'd like to understand more about what additional steps will need to be taken to setup the automated newsletter again.

3) Can you please explain briefly what "List Segmentation" is? This is not supported in the Essentials license, so I need to understand if its important to me.

let me answer your additional questions

you just have to download Essential installation package and install it on the site
be advised that Automatic campaigns in AcyMailing 8 and Smart newsletters in AcyMailing 5 are NOT available in Essential version
List segmentation is a feature where you can exclude certain users from receiving particular email, based on the filters you create. That feature is also not available in Essential version

Thank you for all the information and input. It seems I'll likely continue with the new Enterprise v8 to ensure maximum compatibility and functionality.

When installing version 8.3.0, we are presented with the migration step, as indicated in the URL you provided (https://docs.acymailing.com/setup/migration). My question here is, what option should we select to migrate?

If the Newletters and templates are not compatible between v5 and v8, is there any logic to migrate these? Are there any options we shouldn't select to migrate?

You should select to migrate everything, because that will give you the most occurate data in AcyMailing 8

There is a logic to migrate templates from v5 to v8, because you can use them in v8. You won't be able to easily insert dynamic text code in the HTML based templates though

Thank you for your reply Mihha. I'm going to upgrade to v8.3 and then export from J3 and import to the new J4 site that will also have v8.3.

Two final questions

1) Is there a document that shows how to correctly export and import Acymailing tables using PHPmyAdmin?

2) If someone wants to simply export subscribers (from J3/v8.3), is it best to simply use the Export feature under subscribers? If so, are there any recommendations on how to best perform this export and then import to the new J4 site?

You might want to check this

We don't have an article which explains how to use PHPMyAdmin. You will have to search the internet for that kind of tutorial.

If you want to export just the subscribers, you can do it using the export feature under the subscribers list section, but you won't be able to export their relation to the newsletter lists. If you need to keep that information as well, then you should do a migration as explained in the suggested article from the beginning.

Thank you for the information Mihha. Much appreciated. I'll look at that article now.

Regarding exporting the subscribed users, I'm thinking it would be ok if I just put them into one single list (currently in two different ones). With this assumption, I should be able to export them from the current prod site and import them into the new site I'm building - right? When this occurs, am I asked to assign them to a new list or will ACYmailing create the previous lists they were in?

You will really have to try this by yourself

If you export users from the old site and just import them to the new site, AcyMailing won't create lists in which the users were subscribed on the old site
