Migrating from Acy5 to the latest release

I’ve been using Acy5 for ages and it’s been fine. The decision to end support for this version in 2024 forces me to look to moving to version 8. I’ve read the docs on migrating and they look clear enough but they raise a couple of points that I need help /confirmation with.

Once I migrate my v5 to v8:

(A) will the old v5 component remain useable? Docs indicate yes?
(B) if the upgrade errors, will v5 still be useable
(C) adding to (B) is there a roll-back to make v5 still useable or will be unaffected and still be useable anyway
(D) I can choose to migrate my v5 Newsletters and Templates (I’d migrate everything!). Will they look identical and will the edit UX be the same (my users use JCE Editor).

Ultimately I’d like to run v8 to also use the sending method (to reduce my costs vs Elastic Email) and have a focal point for sending support. If I move to v8, I’d like my user experience to be as close as possible to their V5 experience from an editing point of view.

Can these points be clarified and perhaps the docs be updated to reflect these concepts?

Hi,

Acymailing v5 and v8 can co-existence on the same site. Both versions have their own separate database tables, menu items, and modules.

When you install v8, you have the option to migrate your data from v5 to v8. The migration process takes place in the v8 database tables, leaving your v5 data untouched. However, please note that you can only link your license to one version at a time. You have the flexibility to unlink and link your license between versions as needed.

In v8, migrated templates are referred to as HTML templates. These templates can be edited using the website editor, which is JCE in your case. If you wish to continue using this editor, you must work with templates. When creating a new template, you can choose to use the website editor or the new drag & drop editor. If you start a new email without selecting a template, you will be directed to the drag & drop editor. However, if you start a new email using an HTML template, you will be presented with the website editor.

I suggest installing v8 and migrating your data (v5 will continue to function without interruption) to familiarize yourself with v8 and its features. Once you feel confident, you can proceed with the migration process again to ensure that your v8 version has the latest copy of your v5 data. After that, unlink your license from v5 and link it to v8. Finally, you will need to recreate your frontend menu items and modules using their equivalent v8 versions. By following these steps, your migration will be successfully completed.

Please keep in mind that while we still support the use of the website editor, the future of Acymailing lies with the drag & drop editor.

I also want to move away from V5 but I assume V9 is now the stable version I should move to?

One question: after migrating data from V5 to V9, if I move my licence to V9 and find there's an issue, can it simply be moved back to V5 until I resolve the issue?

You're replying to a very old post. Yes version.9.2.0 is the current release and the next release is expected shortly.

As explained v5 and v9 are two completely different comonents, each with their own set of database tables and they will co-exist on the same site. You can attach your license to either one.
