WordPress....
When I edit an email to send as a newsletter, there are two ways to insert an image:
As a block element: If I then use the Media Manager (popup modal), I can select only an image, not the size. The original size is always used, and despite writing an own plugin which sets a smaller, selected version into all URL fields of the modal which I could find, always the original version is used. I can't find when debugging (lack of skill with debugger) which mechanism is used to pass the selection back - could someone enlighten me?
As an image inside a text block (TinyMCE): The editor is configured differently to WordPress standard, and also offers no way to select an image size. In fact, it only accepts a URL.
In my manual for clients on how to insert images, I have resorted to describing how to clone a browser tab, and have one tab open to the media manager, and the other to AcyMailing Email. Then the user can copy the URL of the smallest version which is large enough in the browser tab for media to the clipboard, and then insert it into the corresponding field in the email dialog (whichever of the two).
I was surprised that it was such an uphill battle. Howcome AcyMailing does not offer an easy and direct way to simply choose a version (size) of the desired image and have it inserted automatically?
Maybe it has to do with the desire that newsletter recipients click on "Display images" when they read the newsletter, so that the tracking pixel will also be fetched, thus allowing tracking? For me the privacy rights of the recipients are more important, and I want to send small images embedded in the newsletter, so that the recipient need not "click to see". Yes, obviously, the tracking then does not work; but I want to make the recipient happy, and he or she will then like me more, because I buck the trend and show pictures without him or her having to allow it explicitly.
Best wishes to all,
Tim
