Mail to the author of the publication article

I haven't used this before, but from what I understand users can receive a Joomla notification in case you enable "Receive system messages" for your user.

Alas, this is not so.
Publication messages are only received by administrators. E-mail are not sent to the authors of the materials.

Indeed, you're right. Acymailing can't do this for you. So you would need to find an extension for that.

The good news is that Jooml 4 will offer you a complete worksflow, including these notifications. You even can create category based worksflows. So that's something to look forward to.
