  • Can I set up my own CRON Job?

Hi,

I was wondering if I can set up my own CRON job on my server to run the sending automatically?

Ray

Hi,

Unfortunately that's not possible as our license would be useless if you have your own cron πŸ™‚

    HI Alexandre,

Are you saying that in V6, we cannot trigger cron job in our server anymore? We have to trigger the cron from Acyba's server? Is that what you meant by your statement above?

Can you give us a good reason for this please? If you have a license checking, that is fine but it doesn't make sense that it cannot check for it when the cron is triggered from our server.

    Thanks,

    Jackson

    Hi,

That means the CRON is only working with valid licenses.
The value of the paid license is the CRON service. If we allow everyone to use their own cron then our license would be useless.
That's why we don't allow users to use their own one.

I'm a bit lost here. If you have a Enterprise license you get the following:

    • You can install AcyMailing on as many websites as you want
    • 1 year web cron service for one website

But if I read the comments correctly it's not possible to use your own cron-service with Acyba 6. This means that you can only use Acyba 6 on a single website because the CRON-service is only valid for one website. And it expires after ONE year. This sucks!

It doesn't suck. You just have te renew your license. You can't expect Acyba to work for free. I'll bet you don't work for free either. If you want all the features you have to pay for it. Also, if you don't renew your license you stop getting updates. Not updating your extensions is what realy sucks. Besides, Acymailing is worth every penny you spend.

If you choose to use the software without paying, Acyba offers a nice free version as well. Without the cron, automatic bounce handling and other time saving features ofcourse. Because free also has a price.

Please remember, Free means it has no or little value. With that in mind, Acyba still offers a lot with their free version.

If I'm correct Acyba will come up with a solution to use your own cron. But that will still only work with a valid license. For one site. Need more sites? Buy a multi-site license.

I bought a 'lifetime' license of Acyba Enterprise that I could use on as many websites as I wanted, as long as I used my own cron-job. Also updates until 2115 were included. That was the main reason I bought the 'lifetime' subscription.
Now Acyba changes the package I bought, and I now have to pay extra for each additional website where I use the Acyba newsletter. I think I will just stick with the old version.

I'm not asking Acyba to work for free. Charging for updates is normal and I think the software has a build in check for that. But disabling the software by forcing the Acyba cron on us is just wrong.

When I buy a car it's my responsablity to get it checked every now and then. And pay for maintenance. Just imagine that the carfactory would just disable my car after one year, and I would have to pay for another year of driving?

      Hi,

I can understand your vision, here is ours:

When you purchase AcyMailing Enterprise, you purchase the possibility to use it automatically (and some extra features).
So that's a kind of yearly subscription to use the service.
At the end of the year, your subscription is expired and AcyMailing can't be used automatically anymore.
If you allow people to use their own cron job then why would they subscribe again?

That's the same for every software. You pay for some extra features / services then if your subscription expires these features are not available anymore.

If your Spotify subscription is expired, you don't have any way to listen to unlimited music without ads and there is no way to do something on our end to access the premium features for free.
Same for Netflix and many other platforms.

Purchasing a car or a house is a totally different thing as you pay for the car itself, not for a daily service.

What do you think about this?

You would pay for updates and support.

I got the lifetime supscription which gives me updates and support well into the next century. But I can't use the program after one year because the cron job will stop working.

You should sell the cron job as a separate product.

      Hi,

Your cron job won't stop ;-)
If you have a lifetime subscription then the cron job will be active for a lifetime too πŸ˜‰

I cant set a cron on my own server to trigger the automatic email sending ??

No other Joomla component do it like you, normally your pay for update and support, not to use the component that you own, acymailing is useless without the automatic email sending fonction, this is just agressive marketing πŸ™

The proof is that the version 5 was letting your client do the auto send with they own cron ...

After reading this I have decided to stick with ACYMailing 5.

I am not comfortable with running a Cron from a remote server.

webdevtim If you have a valid license then you'll be able to create your own cron job for your AcyMailing instance ;-)

            guillex Hello,

I don't consider this as agressive marketing but as a fair deal.

Let's say AcyMailing costs 90€ per year, that means 7,5€ per month.
What if you use it with your own cron on 4 websites for your clients?
We would earn ... 1,8€ per month per website..

We've invested a lot these past years and we need to keep it going.
We can't allow our clients to pay 1 license and then use it on multiple websites. If we allow users to create their own cron then why would they extend their license? AcyMailing would be working perfectly and a license extension would be useless.
In this case we would lose a lot of money and believe me, we can't do that at the moment πŸ˜‰

twisterking In this case you can purchase a multi-site license (which will be available for a 20 websites in September as the 5 websites limit will be removed) but shhh 🀫 let's keep it secret πŸ™‚

This new "lock hold" is really bad and I hate it... I purchased the enterprise version years back and I have always been able to use it using my own cron jobs on whatever website I want (which was kinda' the whole idea for buying the ENTERPRISE version). Now, in this new version it's no longer possible but we're forced to renew a license every year since you decided to remove a function that has ALWAYS been an important part of Acy Mailing. Of course I understand the business aspect of things but for customers like me who have bought into your program YEARS ago it's not fair to remove such a VITAL function. What are you going to do about it?? I'm looking for other mailing softwares now since I don't like the fact to be "forced" to renew something that I've already paid for....

Instead of doing it in such a crappy way I would suggest that you use your creativity and create some NEW functions that is NOT already in the old versions that people actually WANT to pay for... if you create great value people (me too) would love to pay but it's NOT ok to REMOVE a function that has been there for us for YEARS just to force people to renew licenses. I know you probably don't agree but can you see what it looks like from our side as long time customers?? It's the worst way to do business for sure. Creativity, new functions = great! Lock old functions = crap!

              Hi,

When using an AcyMailing Enterprise version you can create an set your own cron job.
Please access the configuration (Queue process tab) and you'll see the link πŸ˜‰

I have a second website with Acymailing V6 installed and using Enterprise version. I like to set up my own cron-service, as used before on V5. Each year I have payed for Acymailing for updates. I do not need the cron-jobs from Acymailing itself. But I can not find an URL to set up cron job.
If I understand the posts before this, it is not longer possible to use Enterprise version with own cron-job? Or is it?
              I am confused.
